The Rainbow Bakery

The children in our class have been showing an interest in baking throughout our classroom. A large group of children worked with Mrs. Olafson to change our Drama Centre into a Bakery. They decided to call it;

THE RAINBOW BAKERY

After a few days, Mrs. Olafson and the students made playdough and added it to our Bakery.

One of our students made a text to media connection and asked if we could turn the large box Mrs. Olafson brought in into a Delivery Truck like he see's on; "The Cake Boss."

Making bread with Mrs. DeYoung's Bread Maker.

We had 3 children that helped with reading the recipe, measuring and adding all the ingredients to the bread maker.

Most children checked on the bread through the viewing window to see how it was cooking.

"I think it is almost done Mrs. DeYoung because it is getting bigger and I can smell it, mmmmmm."

Everyone enjoyed eating it. We are hoping to make cinnamon bread later this week.

The Bakery has been very busy this month with the children taking the role as a baker, customer and cashier. They were bumping into each other and having a difficult time finding room to do all the different jobs. We decided as a group to separate the area so customers could order, eat and buy items on the menu. We also have a separate area to bake all the items.

A variety of children decided to make cookies out of some of the things from the art centre. One of the students asked;
 "Where we going to put them so the customers could buy them?"

Next, the children were busy making a large menu for the wall, as well as using clipboards to take orders around the room for bake goods.

The children worked together to set up deliveries.

The children were excited to make Mrs. Olafson's favourite Chocolate Chip Cookies!
