"What do you think will happen if we put a Gummy Bear in water?"
We talked about how and why we do experiments. When we started the conversation, we told the children when doing experiments we have 3 steps.
1st Predict
2nd Observe
3rd Communicate
Predict: "I think it will grow really big."
"I think the water will change colours."
"I think nothing will happen if you only have water. You have to add something!"
Observe: "There are bubbles all around the bears." "The bear is getting bigger." "It smells good." |
Several children observed the gummy bears on and off for the next couple of days. |
On Monday, we were surprised to see how big they grew. |
The children were able to explore them. |
Communicate: "It is slimy." "The bubbles are gone." "It smells good but feels yucky. I don't want to eat it." "It stretched big." "When it is big, it has more detail. You can see it better." |
"If I use the magnify glass, I can really see it. Even on the one not in water." |
